Too Close! Too Much!

Go ahead and start picking apart this picture! The significance of safety cannot be overstated. It is a matter of urgency that we prioritize the well-being of individuals over appearances or photo opportunities. This blog post explores the critical nature of safety, reflecting on a recent incident that could have turned into a tragedy.

Here's the Backstory

Two individuals in the public eye were reportedly shooting in a backyard, with the press on hand to observe them handling firearms. During the session, an unidentified object struck a reporter's right arm, resulting in minimal bleeding, and first aid was provided promptly. Feel free to check out the story clicking on the picture above.

The Break Down of Safety

This is a wild tale worth dissecting, yet these stories often go unnoticed because it doesn't involve a politician or a celebrity.

Let's dive in: Pros

  • Backyard shooting in this region can be perfectly acceptable when the right precautions are taken.

  • Most the Firearms appear to be pointed in a dafe direction.

  • One Shooter has eye protection on his eyes (the other shooting does not)

  • Someone had a med kit of some type

Cons

  • This "Range" appears to be no more than 15 yards deep. Fine for a .22 pistol but for the majoirty of what we can see on the table and deffiently not for a long rifle with a scope on it as pictured

  • Shooting steel targets way to close as they will produce debris that can cause injury

  • Hard to tell but maybe lacking a solid back drop

  • Shooters claim they didn't know where the press actually was while theyre shooting

Lets Be Better

While we must remain neutral regarding specific events, it is important to recognize that when safety is compromised, it often seems to serve a more significant narrative—sometimes appearing to be more about creating a photo opportunity than ensuring real safety. This kind of mindset can have dire consequences. The lessons learned from past incidents indicate the need for clear protocols and a robust culture of safety. Everyone must be vigilant and proactive in emphasizing safety measures, ensuring that such incidents do not escalate into something regrettable. Everyone is a safety officer on the range!
