On the night of May 20, 2025, a potentially devastating shooting at The Deli Sports Bar in Peoria, Arizona, was averted thanks to the fast response of two trained, legally armed citizens.

What Happened at The Deli Bar in Peoria, AZ?

According to Peoria Police, 46-year-old Mario Franco of El Mirage was asked to leave the bar near 95th and Peoria Avenues after being refused service due to intoxication. Franco later returned with a firearm and began firing multiple shots, striking one person inside the bar.

Fortunately, two individuals seated on a bench outside witnessed the attack. One of them immediately engaged the shooter in the parking lot, fatally stopping him. Both men remained at the scene and fully cooperated with law enforcement.

Peoria Police spokesperson Kristopher Babros said: "We're grateful that they stood up and took action and did what was right."
